Colorful Striped Man
A weathered face rendered with raw, almost sculptural realism — then wrapped in an explosion of pink, red, and violet stripes that seem to belong to an entirely different world. The tension between the sombre, deeply human portrait and the bold graphic garment is quintessential Tkachenko: serious and playful, classical and modern, all at once.

The artist behind the work
Victor Tkachenko
Victor Tkachenko is a Ukrainian-born artist now based in Toronto, creating emotionally charged figurative works that blur the line between realism and abstraction. Known for his haunting, dreamlike imagery, he works primarily with acrylic on board — building up richly textured surfaces through bold, deliberate brushwork, often enhanced with ink, varnish, or plaster.
His style draws on symbolism and expressionism, with elongated forms and layered tones that evoke a deep sense of mystery and melancholy. Figures emerge from shadow, never fully revealed, inviting the viewer into a contemplative space between recognition and the unknown.
